Freedom of information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) is a law giving people
the general right to access recorded information held by public
authorities.
The Act helps people get a better understanding of how public
authorities - like local government, the police, health service and
schools - carry out their duties, why they make the decisions they
do, and how they spend public money.
Our publication scheme is the first place to look
for information - it makes a great deal of documents available to
you already. It lists all the general information that is currently
made available to the public, where to get it from, and whether or
not it is free of charge.
