Take the plunge and join Swimathon 2008

29th February 2008, 08/52

Take the plunge and join Swimathon 2008
Splash your cash for charity by signing up to this year's Swimathon, which is taking place at two West Lancashire leisure centres.

Nye Bevan Swimming Pool in Skelmersdale and Park Pool in Ormskirk will be joining over 500 venues across the country for the world's largest swimming fundraising event, which takes place from the 17th to 20th April 2008

Hollyoaks star, Roxanne McKee, who is the face of Swimathon, said: "By signing up for Swimathon 2008 you can achieve your New Year's resolution of looking good and feeling good, whilst helping Marie Curie Cancer Care to make a difference to the lives of tens of thousands of terminally ill patients."

Now in its 22nd year, almost half a million swimmers have taken part in Swimathon; swimming the equivalent of over 24 times round the world and raising over £30 million for charity - and now you can do your bit too!

Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust, said: "Swimming is a great workout and burns more calories than other popular activities, such as running. So why not get fit and raise money for a good cause at the same time. It's also a great team activity for friends, families and colleagues because you don't have to do it on your own."

Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, added: "I applaud the Trust for once again pledging to support this fantastic fundraising initiative by hosting the Swimathon at their pools. It is open to everyone, encouraging people to set their own personal challenge by accomplishing a distance of their choice - so I'd urge locals to join in and make it the best year yet!"
