Council’s CCTV monitoring will continue to be a
success
story
CCTV is a successful tool in West Lancashire District Council’s
fight against crime - and this will continue thanks to news that it
has re-awarded the monitoring contract to its existing partner.
Remploy Managed Services are to continue to watch the Council’s
surveillance cameras 24 hours a day to ensure that the district
remains a safe place to live, work and visit.
The company was first awarded the contract in 2004 and it has
been a hugely successful partnership with many good news stories
about helping the police catch criminals on camera.
Now the Council has chosen Remploy again to manage its CCTV
services through a competitive tendering process and because they
offer value for money and have a proven track record in providing a
top quality service.
Remploy also has a policy of expanding employment opportunities
for disabled people, which the Council wholeheartedly supports.
They will now provide CCTV monitoring services until 2011.
Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said:
"The Council has invested heavily in CCTV cover for the district
and in the last few months has installed even more cameras in the
area, such as at Coronation Park in Ormskirk and Burscough
Industrial Estate. Therefore, it is crucial that we have the right
partner to deliver a top quality monitoring service. We have
already worked with Remploy for four years and due to their
expertise we have achieved many successes. I’m delighted that we
will be continuing this partnership to ensure that West Lancashire
remains an even safer place to live, work and visit."
David Hollingworth, from Remploy, added: "Over the last three
years we've enjoyed the support and commitment of West Lancashire
District Council in our provision of public space surveillance
services, and my colleagues and I are absolutely delighted to have
been reappointed for a further three years. This contract means
that a team of eight skilled operators, including five people with
disabilities, will help ensure that West Lancashire continues to be
a safe place in which to live."
There are currently 54 cameras across the district, including
Ormskirk town centre and various hotspot locations, which are there
to act as a deterrent and reassurance to residents. The cameras are
monitored around the clock, 24/7.
