Chairman's plea to support charitiesChairman 08

Smaller charities will benefit from the fundraising efforts of West Lancashire District Council’s new Chairman during his year in office.

Cllr Cyril Ainscough was elected the new Chairman at the annual Council meeting on 21 May and has pledged to help those groups and individuals that find it hard to compete for donations against the bigger charities.

The retired engineer, who has been in politics since 1988, said:"There are so many small groups out there that do a lot of great work with so little money that I felt I wanted to do something to help them. At this stage I’ve not picked any particular groups, as I’m still open to suggestions. So I’d love to hear from as many of you as possible."

The married father of three is looking forward to his year in office and as well as wanting to raise as much money as possible for charity he is also looking forward to meeting new people along the way.

The Chairman said: "I’m really excited that I can do something for the people of West Lancashire and get to meet people along the way and represent the District. I’m very much a people’s person. I like people and I enjoy meeting them because I find it easy to connect and chat to people so I want to go out and see as many as local residents as possible. I’m also particularly interested in the youth of today as I was a scout leader for 18 years, so I’m looking forward to meeting lots of young people during my year in office."

If people would like to make a donation or want to organise a fundraising event to raise money for the Chairman’s charities, please contact Ann England on 01695 585033.

This year’s Vice-Chairman is Cllr Geoff Roberts, who was Leader of the Council for more than six years. He will help to represent the district together with his Lady, Eileen Roberts.
