Sing, dance and act your way through the summer
holidays
Don’t let your creative talents go to waste this summer! Make
sure you book onto one of the exciting workshops before all the
places are taken.
Sessions are already being snapped up for the music, drama and
dance classes but there are still a few spaces left for
youngsters.
Whatever your tastes, there’s something for everyone in the
holiday programme, which is aimed at young people from 8 to 18 year
olds. Those aged 13 and above can gain a national accreditation
award if they sign up for the weeklong drama workshop.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "With the summer holidays fast approaching it’s time to make
plans to ensure that the youngsters don’t get bored. So what better
way to keep them occupied than booking them on a few of these
exciting workshops, which are a great way to explore talents
further and meet likeminded young people within a friendly
environment."
The workshops are as follows:
· Music Factory, Monday 11 August, 1pm to 3pm, at the
Engine Rooms, 14-16 Westgate, Skelmersdale. This class is
for 13 to 18 year olds and is based around a typical rock or pop
group. You will create your own music using instruments such as
guitars, drums and keyboards. There’s all you need to start your
own rock band, pop group or create your own dance and hip-hop
anthems. Costs £6.
· Latin Percussion, Monday 18 August, 1pm to 3pm at the
Engine Rooms, 14-16 Westgate,
Skelmersdale. Discover how the music of Africa and Europe
came together to become Salsa in the Caribbean then quickly spread
throughout the world with its own unique rhythmical style that
changed modern music forever. Aimed at 13 to 18 year olds. Costs
£6.
· Drama Workshop, Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 August, 10am
to 4.30pm. If you are interested in drama, sign up for a
weeklong summer activity programme that will develop your creative
skills in the performing arts, through improvisation, rehearsal of
scripted pieces and a finished performance. It is a fantastic
opportunity to work with professionals, learn new techniques, meet
like-minded people and gain a nationally recognised accreditation.
Workshops are held at Rose Theatre, Edge Hill University, St.
Helen’s Road, Ormskirk. The prestigious Arts Award can then be
included on your CV and can be referred to when applying for jobs
or university. It is for 13 to 18 year olds and costs £40 for the
weeklong workshop.
There are many more visual art activities planned to provide fun
filled activities for 8 to 16 year olds.
