An introduction to hedge-laying

3 March 2008, 08/54

An introduction to Hedge-laying
On Sunday 9 March, staff at Coronation Park in Ormskirk are offering members of the local community the opportunity to try their hands at the traditional art of hedge laying.

Hedge laying is a traditional countryside craft and some of the historical and regional variations of the technique will be explored. The benefits of the process will be explained before visitors take part in laying a section of hedgerow in the park.

The event runs from 2-4pm and is suitable for anybody over the age of 14. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

This is a practical event so participants are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear; due to the nature of the event sturdy gloves are also recommended.

Participants are asked to meet at the parks bandstand at 1.45pm to ensure a prompt 2pm start.
