Help celebrate Liverpool Capital of Culture year at
Chapel
Gallery
With Liverpool just a stone’s throw away from West Lancashire,
Chapel Gallery is helping the city celebrate its Capital of Culture
year with a special exhibition.
L39 - Liverpool Links is showing at the popular art gallery in
St Helens Road, Ormskirk, until 28th June and is well worth a
visit.
Visitors who go along to the exhibition will see how the vibrant
and complex city is brought to life by various artists through a
variety of media including painting, photography and
sculpture.
Councillor Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services, said: "West Lancashire has a strong connection with
Liverpool; a history of reciprocal migration, significant transport
links and the Gallery itself has a Liverpool postcode - L39.
Therefore, in recognition of the city’s title ‘Capital of Culture
2008’, this exhibition celebrates the creative talent inspired by
the physical and cultural landscape of this unique city.
"I would urge people to come along and take a look at this
mixture of exciting works that explore the artists’ individual and
often deeply personal relationships with this city."
Showing alongside this exhibition is a showcase of photography
that celebrates the people and places found in West Lancashire.
District Visions Today includes a series of photographs taken by
West Lancashire residents at the turn of the millennium. The Chapel
Gallery is taking this a step further though by developing a
multi-media artwork within the Gallery - and they are inviting all
to contribute in its creation.
Visitors are invited to email in their own photographs of the
rich landscapes and colourful personalities found in West
Lancashire, then watch while the artwork grows as more images are
added during the exhibition’s duration. So whether you are a
well-practiced photographer, or simply someone who enjoys snapping
the people and places around them, all are welcome to participate
in this project.
If you want to contribute please email us your favourite jpeg
images of West Lancashire to: chapel.gallery@westlancsdc.gov.uk.
There are already around fifty images included in the artwork, so
why not add your own.
If you would like to visit these exhibitions, the Gallery, St
Helens Road, is open from 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday,
Entrance is free. For other events at the Gallery, log onto

The Gallery also hosts a range of other activities, family
