Challenge swinging its way to juniors!
Young golfers can 'putt' their handicap to the test by entering the first ever Junior Open for West Lancashire.

Beacon Golf Course in conjunction with West Lancashire District Council are planning to host the championships for youngsters on 25th July for the very first time.

DCT Leisure Ltd, the company that manages the facilities on behalf of the District Council, is sending out letters to all the golf clubs that have junior members to ask them whether they are up to the challenge.

They hope the occasion will hit a hole in one with youngsters as they all strive to win the competition.

The Junior Open also coincides with the silver jubilee celebrations at the golf course as it celebrates 25 years since it opened.

Dave Tilleray, Executive Manager Community Services, said: "It's the first time we have held this sort of competition for junior golfers because we are keen to encourage youngsters to take up this sport. Already the number of young members at Beacon Golf Course is increasing so it's a great way to mark this rise in numbers and celebrate the 25th birthday of the club at the same time."

The club is now taking entries from all certified handicaps. All players between the ages of 10 and 18 are eligible to play who belong to a golf club. The winners are in with a chance of some fantastic prizes.

Mark Prosser of DCT, said: "Everyone at Beacon Park GC is really excited about the prospect of the inaugural Junior Open to celebrate our Silver Jubilee. The District Council has funded a tremendously generous prize pool and we look forward to welcoming competitors from all over the region for what will undoubtedly be a really enjoyable day of competitive golf. Application forms can be downloaded direct from our web site: Beacon Park Golf Club."

Scott Rigby, Junior Captain, added: "Our junior section relishes the thought of hosting junior players from all around the area at what will be a challenging event for all competitors. If you are up to the challenge get your application form in as soon as possible."

In addition, to encourage even more boys and girls to take up golf from an early age, the club is running a special promotion. Every Friday, throughout April, May and June, juniors aged 8 to 16yrs can come along to the driving range between 4pm and 6pm and purchase a basket of balls for half-price! junior golf clubs are available to hire from the club shop. A £15 deposit will be required which will be refunded on return of the club. A responsible adult must accompany juniors at all times.

The 18-holf golf course, which was designed by Donald Steel who has a great reputation within golf, is set within beautiful scenery and is open from 8am to 4.30pm seven days a week. There's also a golf shop, the Brasserie and Terrace Bar for meals and drinks, plus a resident pro to offer tips on how to improve your game.

There are always various promotions on offer to ensure that golfing is available for all.
