Scouts honour!
Youngsters helped the Chairman of West Lancashire District
Council raise the flag to mark the 100th anniversary of the
scouting movement.
As part of a yearlong programme to celebrate 100 years of scouting,
members of the Ormskirk District of the Scout Association came
along to the Council offices on 1st August to acknowledge this
milestone occasion.
Beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers and other members helped the
Chairman Cllr William Cropper raise the flag to recognise the work
that they do within the community.
This local event was just one of many that has been organised
across the world for the 'Join-in-Centenary' celebrations.
He said: "There are more than 1,500 scouts in our district and I
think they do lots of tremendous work. This year marks what has
been achieved over the last 100 years, developing into a worldwide
organisation covering 216 countries. The principles behind the
Scouts are as relevant today as they were 100 years ago and I'm
pleased to support them".
The Chairman has picked the Scout and Girl Guide organisations in
West Lancashire to benefit from the funds that are raised from his
charity events throughout the year, which is a fitting time in
light of the scout's centenary birthday.
If people, or organisations, would like to make a donation or help
arrange a fundraising event to support the Chairman's charities,
please contact Ann England on 01695 585033.
