Stand up for ethics!
Do you have an interest in ensuring high ethical standards in
local government? Then we want to hear from you.
West Lancashire District Council is committed to involving local
residents in the way it conducts its business and
decision-making.
One way of achieving this is to operate its own Standards
Committee, which has the job of promoting and maintaining high
standards of conduct for its elected members.
To ensure that this role is carried out effectively and impartially
the Committee has 5 Independent Members - and now there is a vacant
seat up for grabs!
The Council is looking for a new member of the public who would be
interested in this exciting appointment.
Anyone able to vote in the area can apply for the role but ideally
they should:
· Reside in West Lancashire
· Have some knowledge of local government
· Be prepared to sign the Council's Code of Conduct
Potential candidates must not be a member of a political party, an
elected member or officer at West Lancashire or at another local
authority, nor be a close relative or friend of an elected member
or officer at West Lancashire.
Cllr Geoff Roberts, Leader of the Council, said: "We want to ensure
that our governance standards in West Lancashire are excellent and
the Standards Committee has a very important role to play in
maintaining this. Appointing Independent Members is a great way of
involving citizens with a commitment to public service to promote
such high standards and also demonstrates impartiality and
fairness. To ensure that we maintain our independence and
integrity, I would encourage those who have an interest in this
role to come forward."
The extended closing date for applications is Friday 31st August.
