Become a hedge laying expert
Fancy learning a new skill? Well now is your chance!
West Lancashire District Council's Countryside Rangers are offering
a free week-long training course from Monday 5 through to Friday 9
March for anyone who wants to try their hand at the traditional art
of hedge laying.
Methods of hedge laying vary throughout the country but the Rangers
will be teaching the 'Lancashire style', demonstrating the basic
skills required to perfect this ancient art of managing
hedgerows.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:
"Hedge laying is an extremely important countryside craft that was
originally carried out many years ago to provide field boundaries
for farmers. These days it also helps to provide homes for a wide
range of wildlife."
"This training course is a great opportunity to learn a new skill
and to meet new people but don't forget that to take part you need
to sign up. Places are strictly limited so call the Rangers on
01695 622794 today, and grab yourself a place."
This event will take place at the Ranger Station, Beacon Country
Park. Rangers will provide the necessary safety equipment and tools
but don't forget to wear suitable clothing, and footwear.
