Get hands on at Hunters Hill
Are you green fingered? Then why not lend a helping hand to the
Countryside Rangers during their next Conservation Task Day on
Sunday 25 February?
Hunters Hill Quarry is an area of natural beauty in West Lancashire
but all to easily it can become overrun with rhododendron. This is
not a native species and is very prolific - quickly overtaking an
area if it is left unmanaged.
So, as part of the Rangers' proactive vegetation management, the
Conservation Task Day will be spent pruning back this shrub,
helping to preserve the area and ensure the healthy growth of other
varieties of plant life.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:
"Vegetation management is an essential part of the Rangers' work to
maintain our countryside and keep it looking at its best.
"This conservation task is sure to be a very rewarding day and I
would urge anyone who likes to spend time in their garden pruning,
to come along and offer their services."
To take part in this event meet the Rangers at Hunters Hill Quarry
Car Park on Bannister Lane, Hilldale at 10.30am.
Rangers will supply all the necessary equipment but don't forget to
wear suitable clothing, footwear and remember to bring a packed
lunch.
The event is free and is suitable for all age groups but children
under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
