Making West Lancs an even better place to
live
Residents are invited to give their views on plans that will make
West Lancashire an even better place to live over the coming
decade.
The West Lancashire Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) is publishing
its draft Sustainable Community Strategy for West Lancashire
2007-17, which sets out series of objectives and priority projects
to achieve the vision of "Improving quality of life for all.
"
The LSP comprises a range of organisations from the public,
private, community and voluntary sectors, working together in
partnership to improve the quality of life for people of West
Lancashire.
The LSP's aims are to work together to make West Lancashire:
· the cleanest, safest, healthiest and greenest place in the
country to live, work and enjoy
· a place where everyone is valued and has the opportunity to
contribute
· a place with excellent, easily accessible and sustainable jobs
and services.
The Chairman of the LSP, Rosie Cooper MP, said: "We have worked
together to identify the areas where we need to take action to make
improvements in the quality of life for West Lancashire people, and
we've put together a list of priority projects on which we will
work together."
"It's now over to you - the people of West Lancashire- to tell us
what you think. I encourage people to take a look at the strategy
and give their views. Do you think we've got it right? Let us
know."
Cllr Geoff Roberts, Leader of the Council, said: "A great deal has
already been achieved by the LSP in West Lancs. Satisfaction with
the area as a place to live has increased from 80% in 2000/1 to 88%
in 2004, according to a survey of the Citizen's Panel, and over the
last few years our partnership working has attracted millions of
pounds of external funding, helping to create jobs and improve the
quality of life for local people. The new strategy will take
forward this work and I encourage people to give us their
views."
The priority projects listed in the strategy include a range of
initiatives across the whole district including regeneration,
housing, improvements to make communities safer; help and support
for business; action to support the rural economy and improve
villages; energy management and projects to improve housing and
transport.
Copies of the strategy will be available online from our Local Strategic
Partnership section from 28 February, with a form you can
complete online to give your views. Copies can also be read in
public libraries.
