Partnerships Together: Love Your
Neighbourhood

As part of the "Partnerships Together" campaign Neighbourhood
Policing teams will be joining forces with Neighbourhood Watch
Co-ordinators this week to encourage people to "Love Their
Neighbourhood".
Launched during Valentine's week the campaign will concentrate on
promoting the work of Neighbourhood Watch. Police and community
safety representatives in all three boroughs will be out and about
encouraging people to become members of existing Neighbourhood
Watch schemes or consider setting up new schemes in their
areas.
This initiative is just one part of 'Partnerships Together' - an
innovative safety campaign that aims to cut alcohol crime and
domestic abuse, keep young people safe and out of trouble and
encourage neighbourhoods across the three boroughs to take
community safety seriously.
Neighbourhood Watch is the fastest growing Voluntary Organisation
in the country and aims to develop projects to reduce the fear of
crime as well as communicate with members to provide a unified
message and let them know what is happening. Through its work
Neighbourhood Watch also forms and maintains effective partnerships
and works with the community.
Dianne Hignett, Crime Prevention Officer for West Lancs commented,
"Whatever the problem, in your neighbourhood, you have the power to
do something about it. However, it is much easier when this is a
group objective. This is where Neighbourhood Watch comes in. A
large amount of work can be accomplished to prevent crime and help
everyone to take steps to prevent them becoming a victim of
crime."
Councillor David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services
at West Lancashire District Council, said:
"We hope this latest initiative really encourages people to 'Love
Their Neighbourhood' and to perhaps think about signing up to their
local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in a bid to protect their local
area."
If anyone is interested in joining their local Neighbourhood Watch
Scheme or setting up a new scheme for their area they should
contact the local Crime Prevention Officer for West Lancs - Dianne
Hignett on 01695 566353.
