Grubs up for local birdlife
As part of the next Junior Rangers' Club event kids will be serving
up a tasty treat for local birdlife.
On Saturday 3 February the group will be making special feeders
from nuts, seeds and berries, which will help to supply birds with
all the necessary goodness and energy to survive the barren winter
months.
The group will also be shown how to make stands to hold the
feeders, which will be constructed from wood collected from the
grounds of Beacon Country Park. The children can then take the
finished feeders home to enjoy watching the variety of birdlife
that will come to feast.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:
"The winter months can be really harsh for birds and these feeders
help to supply them with lots of necessary nutrients and
energy."
"The Junior Rangers' Club is a great way for kids to learn about
the environment whilst having lots of fun and being
creative."
This event will take place from 2pm to 4pm at Beacon Country Park,
Up Holland, and is free.
The Junior Rangers' Club (incorporating the Wildlife Watch Club) is
for children up to the aged of 13. All are welcome but children
under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
The Club is run by the Council's Countryside Rangers and the group
meets at Beacon Country Park in Up Holland in the afternoon of the
first Saturday of every month.
