District in full bloom
Splashes of colour will bring West Lancashire to life following the
recent grey, dreary rain, thanks to the District Council's summer
planting programme.
Over the last few weeks the District Council's grounds maintenance
team have been busy putting flowers in the open spaces and some of
the town's popular parks to add a bright sparkle to West
Lancashire
Assortments of planted flowers in a multitude of varieties and
species should now be starting to bloom at the picturesque St
Helens Road Park and the Council's flagship Coronation Park in
Ormskirk.
Hanging baskets have been put around Ormskirk Town Centre, the War
Memorials have new planting and other landscaped beauty spots
around the area should soon have a whole new look to reflect the
change in season.
The Council hopes that the recent torrential rain won't put a
dampener on the project, which has just been completed, and
residents will soon experience a blooming garden district.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene Management,
said: "We have a fantastic reputation as a garden district: clean
and green, and we want to maintain this image, which is why we have
carried out this important programme of summer planting works. By
looking after our beautifully kept landscaped areas we are keeping
West Lancashire looking nice, colourful and blooming
marvellous.
"This latest initiative is all part of our commitment to keeping
West Lancashire clean and green. The summer planting project is an
important part of our work as it provides a vibrant and visual
seasonal impact suitable for the warmer weather."
A brand new colour scheme has been chosen to reflect the summer
season and the Council has also used peat-free compost to carry out
these works because it is friendlier to the environment.
