Inspiring brand new exercises for children
Innovative new leisure activities for children are coming their way
as West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust moves away from
traditional exercise.
Ballet, street dance, cheerleading and junior body combat are the
new classes being launched for youngsters at some of the Trust's
leisure centres - just in time for the school summer break.
Children can learn the basic disciplines of these exercises and
dance classes in a fun and safe environment, taught by the
experts.
Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the Leisure Trust, said: "We know that the
summer holidays can sometimes end up with youngsters being bored,
especially in light of this recent wet weather! So we have come up
with a really unusual list of activities to complement the more
traditional programme of leisure pastimes so that children have a
real variety of choice. Street dance is becoming really popular and
although exercises such as ballet and cheerleading are less popular
nowadays they are just as much fun. I hope children will be as
thrilled with these activities as we are to be launching
them!"
These latest sessions complement the other activities young people
can try out, such as water-based activities, disco and party
sessions in the swimming pools at Nye Bevan and Park Pool.
And don't forget the junior gym classes, which were launched last
year and are hugely popular with boys and girls who want to work
out, get fit and stay healthy. The specialist equipment designed
for young people allows them to enjoy a gym workout the same as
adults do, in a proper gym, in a friendly environment with
music.
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "The Trust has
really worked hard to bring such an unusual, varied summer
programme to West Lancashire for children to benefit from. The
activities are a nice mixture and complement the Council's own
programme of events at Chapel Gallery, the countryside sites and
other areas. With so much on offer for youngsters, they will be
needing another holiday to recover!"
