Register your voice

West Lancashire District Council is urging residents to make
sure that they are registered to vote.
New services were made available to residents for the first time
last year, giving people the choice to go online or make a
freephone call to register as an elector. Following the success of
these services, they are being offered to residents again this
year.
From the 13 August onwards the Council is sending registration
forms out to every house, listing all the people in the household
who are currently registered to vote.
Householders can then choose from one of three ways to reply: click
to go online through the website; call using the freephone service;
or post the form back in the usual way.
William Taylor, West Lancs Returning Officer, said: "Ensuring that
your voice is heard and that you are registered to vote is
extremely important. The success of the registration options
introduced last year mean that it is now even easier for people to
ensure they are on the electoral role.
"I would urge everyone to make the most of the services at their
fingertips. You can click or call at any time that suits you - both
are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the 28 November.
Your vote is important, so make sure you've registered to use
it."
Click or call: if all the details on the form are correct, and you
are sure there won't be any changes before the 15 October 2007, you
can register online or by telephone. The website address and the
freephone number are given on the form.
When you go online, or use the freephone service, you will be asked
to key in the security code that is printed at the top of the form.
Then you will be told whether the persons in your household are
currently included or excluded from the edited register, and you
will be asked if you wish to make any changes regarding these
exclusions. You can also request an application form for a postal
vote.
Post: If the details on the form are incorrect, or if you wish to
include or delete anyone, you must amend the form accordingly and
sign and return it in the pre-paid envelope provided.
Anyone who needs more information about how to register to vote, or
about the electoral register, can contact the Electoral Services
Office on 01695 585018 or email elections.office@westlancsdc.gov.uk.
