Top of the pops at Coronation Park
bandstand
Tune in at Ormskirk's Coronation Park this
summer as a number of bands are lined up to play over the
holidays.
For the second year running, West Lancashire District Council
together with Abacus Music, has organised a variety of performances
in the bandstand every Saturday throughout the summer.
Starting from 28th July right through to 1st September, singers and
groups will take centre stage in the park to entertain visitors and
residents with their musical talents.
From folk and jazz to Irish and contemporary artists there will be
something to suit all tastes.
Whilst there, visitors can also take advantage of the beautiful
landscape, let the children use the play equipment or even have a
picnic listening to the sounds of the band.
Councillor Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "Last
year was the first time we had music in the park following the
opening of the bandstand and it was really popular with both old
and young alike. So this year we've an even bigger line-up of
entertainment.
"It's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon and also provides a
unique opportunity for aspiring singers and bands to showcase their
talents, so make sure you come along and enjoy this traditional
pastime."
The bands on each Saturday from 2pm (weather permitting) are as
follows:
· 28th July, the Jill Fielding Band playing Irish, American
50s/60s
· 4th August, Pete Rimmer singing folk
· 11th August, Tony Gibbons and Graham Dunn playing Irish
folk
· 18th August, Jill Fielding and Friends doing cabaret with four
rising stars
· 25th August, Tres Fez playing gypsy jazz
· 1st September, Badge singing the blues.
There will also be brass bands playing every Sunday too at the
bandstand. The programme is being finalised and details will be
published shortly.
Entertainers, bands, singers and other performers who are
interested in using the bandstand can contact Steve Kent on 01695
585169.
The latest events in Coronation Park compliment other works that
are planned as part of its improvement plan, including a focal
entrance feature and avenue leading into the park; new woodlands;
and resurfacing works and improvements to the surroundings of the
site.
