Celebration of young people for summer nights
campaign
Do you know a young person who goes that extra mile to make West
Lancashire a nicer place to live? Then why not enter them for an
'Operation Summer Nights Celebration of Young People Award'.
This exciting new awards scheme is being run by agencies across
Lancashire including West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership
to recognise the commitment, energy and enthusiasm of young
people.
It is open to all children and young people up to the age of 18 who
live in Lancashire and they can be nominated for six
categories:
· Courage
· Young People's Champion
· Exceptional commitment and dedication to a cause
· Improving the community
· Building bridges
· Operation Summer Nights outstanding achievement
So if you know someone - or a group of young people - who you think
deserves recognition for their efforts, make a nomination online at
Lancashire Police. The
closing date is 31st July.
Councillor David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "Young people are important and it's crucial that we
recognise their positive role within the community, which is why
these awards have been organised to reward and encourage them. We
want to recognise the contributions that young people make so if
you know somebody who goes that extra mile for others, then make
sure you nominate them!"
The awards are the part of Operation Summer Nights 2007, which is
now in its third year and is a multi-agency campaign that aims to
tackle and prevent alcohol related anti-social behaviour across
Lancashire in the summer months.
This year it is to be launched on Sunday 1st July at Lancashire
Constabulary Headquarters, Hutton, near Preston and promises a
fun-filled day for all the family with police dog demos, having
fingerprints and mug shots taken, a football tournament and much
more.
Once the campaign has been launched, West Lancashire District
Council will be working with partners on a range of its own
interventions to curb nuisance drinking and anti social behaviour
across the area. Promoting positive messages and encouraging
sensible drinking will be key to the campaign.
Bill Taylor, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Safety
Partnership, said: "Our top priority is making sure that our
residents feel safe and secure, which is why we are launching
Operation Summer Nights again to make sure that people don't have
to suffer from the consequences of disrespectful behaviour."
"We don't want to stop people enjoying themselves but we do want
them to be considerate towards others and will be promoting
positive behaviour and sensible drinking throughout the
campaign."
