Chairman 'promises to do his best' for
charities

The District Council's newly elected Chairman for 2007/08 is
urging the local community to help raise funds for his two chosen
charities - the Scout Association and the Girl Guide
Association.
Cllr William Cropper, who was elected as the new Chairman at the
annual council meeting on 16 May, has picked these two worthy
organisations to benefit from the funds that are raised from
charity events throughout the year.
He said: "I think that the Scouts and the Girl Guides are fantastic
organisations for young people. They help to encourage youngsters
to develop a wide variety of skills and interests to achieve their
full physical, intellectual and social potential."
This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the scouting movement so
it is a timely choice of charity to benefit from the Chairman's
year in office.
He continued: "The principles behind both the Scouts and the Guides
are as relevant today as they were 100 years ago. My son gained a
great deal from his involvement in the Scouts and I feel that both
organisations give a lot to the community and should be recognised
and supported."
"I'm really looking forward to the year ahead and hope that lots of
people will get involved in organising events and give support to
my chosen charities."
Representatives from the Scout Association and Guide Association
will be meeting the Chairman on 19 June.
If people, or organisations, would like to make a donation or help
arrange a fundraising event to support the Chairman's charities,
