Council supports national Food Safety Week
The 11-17 June 2007 marks the 15th National Food Safety Week and
this year the District Council will be raising awareness of what we
can all do to ensure that our food is safe to eat.
The Council's Commercial Safety Team will be supporting the annual
event by visiting local school children between the ages of 9 and
11years, generating understanding on how good hygiene practices can
help to keep food safe.
The team will be sending out a clear message by providing fun and
informative talks focusing on the basic principles of hygiene and
building knowledge around the four Cs for food safety. The four Cs
are:
· Cleanliness - making sure hands, surfaces and utensils are
clean
· Cooking - making sure food is properly cooked before eating
· Chilling - keeping perishable foods cold until you cook or eat
them
· Cross-contamination - making sure that bacteria from raw food is
not passed to cooked food or ready to eat foods
Cllr Baldock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Health, said:
"Food safety is something that we all need to be aware of. This
year marks the 15th successful anniversary of the national
campaign, which helps to raise awareness amongst consumers of all
ages about the simple but effective steps that can be taken to keep
food save."
"I am delighted that yet again the Council is supporting this event
and increasing the awareness, and likewise the safety, of children
across the district."
