Future is bright for national Shades Day
The District Council's Chairman is urging everyone to join him in
donning their shades to help make sure national Shades Day 2007 is
a huge success.
Cllr William Cropper will be amongst thousands of adults and school
children across the country, who will be wearing their shades, sun
visors or sun hats to raise awareness of the need to protect your
eyes from the glare of harmful rays when outside in the
sunlight.
Research has shown that it's important for everyone, particularly
children, to protect their eyes from the sun, as exposure to
sunlight can increase the risk of long-term eye damage.
On Friday 29 June, the Chairman will be wearing his shades to help
launch this year's campaign and will be encouraging residents to
donate £1 and wear their sunglasses to support this annual
fundraising event.
Cllr Cropper, said: "When the sun comes out it's really important
to protect your eyes, otherwise you could damage them in the
harmful UV sunlight. Shades Day is a fantastic way to increase
awareness about eye protection and raise money for Guide Dogs. I
hope everyone in West Lancashire will make a donation and remember
to do the sensible thing this summer by sticking on your
shades."
Guide Dogs is committed to eye health education and has invested
more than £10 million into researching the causes of eye
conditions. For more information on eye health, visit
