Skelmersdale town centre is changing and it's time for
local people to have their say...

Do you have ideas on how Skelmersdale town centre should be
improved? If so, come along to a special exhibition at the
Concourse on 5, 6 and 7 July running from 11am to 4pm.
Exciting new proposals for the regeneration of Skelmersdale town
centre are being launched and West Lancashire District Council is
staging a four-week consultation period for local people to give
their views.
At the exhibition each day people will be able to talk to the
experts about the proposals, find out more information and see
artists' impressions. They will also be able to give their
views.
The overall aim of the project is to mark a new beginning for the
town, creating brand new shopping, community and leisure facilities
in the heart of Skelmersdale, along with new housing and office
development. Views are sought on some of the options facing the
Council to enable it to draw up a masterplan later this year, which
will set out in detail how the proposals might be
implemented.
Cllr Ian Grant, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: "If you
care about what happens to the heart of Skelmersdale, then come
along to the exhibition. You'll be able to find out more
information and tell us what you think. When the development of the
vision for Skelmersdale first began, local people were asked to
give their views. Your comments were taken on board and these have
been used to create the options on which this second round of
consultation is based. It's important that as many people as
possible take the opportunity to get involved."
The consultation period runs from Wednesday 27 June to Tuesday 24
July and to ensure that everyone gets information and has the
chance to comment, a special information paper and questionnaire
has been sent to every home in the town. The questionnaire is
available for completion online by visiting the Skelmersdale Vision
section.
The proposals for the town centre have been put together by West
Lancashire District Council and national regeneration agency
English Partnerships. St Modwen Properties Plc, a national
regeneration specialist, has been chosen as the preferred developer
for the plans.
