Surprise gifts for Father's Day

Stuck for something to get the man in your life for Father's Day
on 17th June? Then visit the unique contemporary craft shop at
Ormskirk's Chapel Gallery for lots of ideas.
The shop inside the Gallery is a hidden gem in the heart of the
town centre, off St Helens Road, which offers plenty of unusual
ideas at affordable prices.
Whether it's your dad, granddad or even expectant father there's
lots of unusual gifts from cufflinks, hand-printed silk ties,
tiepins, as well as leather-bound diaries.
Or if he likes art, why not chose him a picture for somewhere in
the home. The Gallery runs its 'Own Art' scheme, which makes it
easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary works of art
and craft including paintings, photography, sculpture, glassware,
furniture, jewellery, ceramics, textiles and anything else created
by an artist. It is even possible to commission something unique by
an artist you admire without having to stump up the cash in one go.
You can borrow up to £2,000, or as little as £100, and pay back the
loan in 10 monthly instalments - interest free.
Another idea is to take your dad to the latest exhibition, Animal
Instincts. Artist Naomi Matthews is showing her dramatic figurative
forms, which looks at situations in which animals behave like
humans and humans revert to their animal instincts. Showcasing
alongside her is James Walsh, whose vigorous paintings are full of
life. His bold use of paint and powerfully drawn characters capture
the intensity of human emotion. Both exhibitions run until 23rd
June.
When your feet are too tired to do any more shopping and you have
examined the artists' displays, why not relax at the café with a
drink and pick a delicious selection off the food menu.
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "It can
sometimes be awkward to find that special gift for Father's Day but
there are plenty of ideas if you visit Chapel Gallery. You are
guaranteed to come away with an unusual surprise instead of the
more traditional presents such as shirts and socks!"
The Gallery, off St Helens Road, is open from 10am to 4.30pm,
Tuesday to Saturday. Entrance is free. For more information or
