Veterans' Day celebrations
War heroes in West Lancashire will be celebrated during national
Veterans' Day.
Some of the Council's community centres in Skelmersdale will be
hosting special events to commemorate those who have made the
ultimate sacrifice in serving their country and the contribution to
those in the armed forces.
This year's Veterans Day is officially 27th June but various events
are happening throughout the month to mark the occasion.
On 23rd June Digmoor Community Resource Centre in Birleywood will
be hosting a social gathering from 7.30pm till late. The hall will
be decked in war memorabilia and everyone is welcome to come along
to enjoy music, dancing, food and laughter. For more information

Then on 30th June Birch Green Community Resource Centre in Hartland
will be holding a thank you event too. It will start at 11am with a
one-minute silence and will be officially opened by the Chairman of
the District Council, Cllr William Cropper.
Throughout the day until 4pm there will be a display of slides and
other war memorabilia, appropriate music to include the marches
from the different organisations coming along. Entertainment and
refreshments will also be available. The Cadets will also be making
an appearance too to celebrate the different age groups. To find

Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "I'm delighted
that our community centres are celebrating Veterans Day. Our local
vary greatly in both age and service experience but all are special
because of the contribution they have made and all should be
acknowledged during this time."
