What a transformation!

Recycle Now Week runs from the 2-8 June and this year's theme is
all about transformation.
The national campaign will be encouraging people to:
· transform behaviour by making a long-term commitment to recycle
more
· transform your household, school or office into a recycling
hot-spot
· discover what weird and wonderful items household waste can be
transformed into
The District Council recognises the fantastic achievement of local
residents in already transforming their recycling habits to adapt
to the new system of refuse and recycling collection. As a direct
result of this change, recycling figures have been drastically
improved - which is great news for the environment.
In the first three months of 2007 over 2 million glass bottles were
recycled, more than over 3.5 million newspapers and a massive 6.5
million plastic bottles and cans. As people are getting more
accustomed to the new system these figures just keep on growing but
there is always room for improvement. So, to support Recycle Now
Week, the Council is urging residents to take a fresh look a what
they are recycling and make sure that as much material as possible
is being recycled and put to a better, greener use.
Cllr Westley, Portfolio Holder for Refuse and Recycling, said: "I
think it's great that the Council is supporting the National
Recycle Now Week and encouraging residents to take a fresh look at
what they are recycling."
"The way the majority of residents have adapted to the new system
has been fantastic and our recycling figures reflect these efforts.
However, with the introduction of new facilities such as cardboard
and textile recycling at the beginning of the year, now is a great
time for people to take another look a how much they are recycling
and make sure that we are doing everything possible to help
guarantee a cleaner, greener and safer future for generations to
come."
