Working together to improve the quality of
life

Exciting plans to improve the quality of life for everyone
across the district are to be unveiled at West Lancashire Local
Strategic Partnership's (WLLSP) annual conference.
At the event on 15th June, partners will launch the Sustainable
Community Strategy for West Lancashire 2007-2017, which provides a
framework for delivering improvements in West Lancashire through a
vision, agreed objectives and a set of priority projects.
It is a result of 18 months of work involving the community and key
partners and it identifies nine key priorities:
· To improve safety and ensure that people feel safe
· To build on the solid foundations of a strong voluntary and
community sector and to develop community participation and pride
in our neighborhoods
· To improve health outcomes, promote social well-being for
communities and reduce health inequalities for everyone
· To provide more appropriate and affordable housing to meet the
needs of local people
· To provide good quality services that are easily accessible to
all
· To contribute to sustainable development through the wise use of
natural resources
· To provide opportunities for young and older people to
thrive
· To create more and better quality training and job opportunities
to get more people into work
· To protect and improve West Lancashire's environment including
safeguarding our biodiversity.
During the conference, there will also be the launch of the annual
report, highlighting the partnership's successes over the last
year, demonstrated by a number of projects and initiatives
including the Skelmersdale Vision, Burscough and Ormskirk Market
Towns Initiative, Safer Stronger Communities project in
Skelmersdale, Rural Economy Study, Vital Villages/Parish Plans,
Inspire, Affordable Housing Strategy, Integrated Transport and
Energy Management.
Rosie Cooper, Chair of the WLLSP, said: "During the last 12 months
we have seen good progress with some of our key projects and this
is mainly due to excellent partnership working. I'm particularly
looking forward to unveiling our Sustainable Community Strategy on
15th June, which will help us to deliver a number of priorities to
improve the quality of life for people in West Lancashire."
"There are over 80 organisations and individuals involved in the
LSP and together we will be working with our partners in the
private, community, voluntary and faith sector, and statutory
agencies such as West Lancashire District Council and Lancashire
County Council, the Primary Care Trust, Police, Fire Service and
many more to take forward our challenging plans for the future to
make West Lancashire an even better place to live, work and
visit."
Throughout the day there will also be presentations from Cllr Geoff
M. Roberts, Leader of West Lancashire District Council, on the
Local Government Bill: Transformation through partnership. Cllr
Hazel Harding, Leader of Lancashire County Council, will also be
there to talk about Ambition Lancashire and the Local Area
Agreement.
Other talks will focus on the progress made so far on the safer,
stronger communities fund of £3.7m to improve Digmoor, Moorside and
parts of Tanhouse to make these three areas in Skelmersdale
cleaner, greener and safer.
Cllr Geoff Roberts, Leader of West Lancashire District Council,
said: "There is nothing more important to improving local quality
of life for people than getting the delivery of local services
right and I believe that by all partners working together to
achieve and deliver their promises it is a win win situation for
everyone."
"Here in West Lancashire we have a strong track record of
partnership working and I applaud the work of the LSP for all the
work that they are doing to drive forward positive changes. The
most important thing for me is that we continue to make a
difference together."
