Council's home improvements get the thumbs up

Home improvements - new windows

The District Council's window and door replacement scheme is simply 'marvellous' according to one very happy tenant.

Committed to meeting the 'Decent Homes' standards set by the Government, the Council is investing £342,000 into improvements for properties across the district, which is delighting many of its tenants.

Currently benefiting from the scheme are homes in Aughton and Old Skelmersdale, where tired windows and doors are being replaced with brand new double-glazed pvc frames. Not only do the replacements look smart and require limited maintenance, the windows are also fitted with special safety catches to allow for easy escape in the event of a fire - helping to increase the safety and security of tenants.

Marie McLoughlin of Rothwell Drive, Aughton, was so thrilled with the scheme that she took the time to contact the Council. She said: "Thank you so much - I just love my new windows and doors! I've had six windows and both my front and back door replaced, and they all look fantastic. The work carried out was fast and efficient, with time even taken to show me how to properly work the safety catches."

"Not only do the new windows look far better but I now also feel much more secure in my home. I really want to thank the Council for a job well done."

Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Housing Services, said: "Ensuring that we meet the Decent Homes standard is a top priority for the Council in order to ensure the continued health, safety and comfort of our tenants. This replacement scheme forms part of our wider project to rejuvenate the council's housing stock and it is great to know not only that the work we are doing, but that the contractors we commission to carried it out, are providing a valuable service for local residents."

"I would like to thank the contractor, Hanover, for their excellent workmanship and also Mrs McLoughlin - it's lovely to have someone take the trouble to let us know when we are doing a good job."
