Last chance to shape performing arts

Young people have one last chance to try out taster sessions in
music, dance and drama - and to give their views in order to help
shape future performing arts opportunities.
During the Easter school holidays (3rd to 12th April) the last
activity programme is planned for Go Live - the West Lancashire
Young People's Performing Arts Project.
It's a final opportunity for young people to try out an amazing
range of activities including: singing coaching, percussion, rock
school and song writing for the musically minded; a chance to dance
your socks off to capoeria and carnival, hip hop, contemporary,
jazz and street dance; try out circus skills or create a drama such
as developing your own soap!
All the workshops are being provided by leading experts, including
Ludus Dance, More Music, Drama Consultant Fred Louttit and Skylight
Circus
More importantly, it's the last chance to have a say on what range
of art activities you would like to see happen in West
Lancashire.

Secondary schools across West Lancashire are already
participating in the consultation, with all year eight pupils being
given the opportunity to complete a survey on the performing arts.
In addition, the taster sessions also give children the opportunity
to say what they think too.
What youngsters have said about previous taster sessions are:
· Alex, age 13, on DJ skills, "I learnt how to use a deck, to
scratch and beat."
· Jack, age 14, on song writing, "Can't be improved it was boss. It
was easy to understand & great for people to work with."
· Matt, age 15, on rock school, "Learnt new songs and how to
improvise."
· Debbie, age 14, on drama, "Gained more confidence, working with
people I didn't know and made new friends."
· Sarah, age 12, on dance, " I just enjoyed it, it was great
fun!"
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:
"Once again we have an amazing line-up for the Easter holidays for
young people and it's important that children use this last
opportunity to try out the exciting taster sessions. Not only is it
a fun way to spend the school holidays but it's a final chance to
have a say on the future of performing arts - so stand up and be
counted."
The idea behind the Go Live project is to increase the
opportunities available for young people to participate in
performing arts, gain accreditation, learning both traditional and
contemporary skills. The project is the result of a partnership
between the District Council, Lancashire County Council and Rose
Theatre at Edge Hill University.
