Pupils swap roles as litter pickers for day
Primary school children from Little Digmoor will be helping to
improve their environment during a clean-up blitz on Friday 2nd
March.
The special operation has been organised by the Police in
partnership with West Lancashire District Council and will involve
pupils at Little Digmoor Primary School removing rubbish from their
area.
Seven and eight year olds from the school will join representatives
from the Council, Police and local community to make a hot-spot
area within the grounds sparkling clean and tidy.
The idea behind the initiative is to engage with the community in a
positive way, to encourage the youngsters to take pride in their
area and to improve their overall quality of life.
Cllr Iain Ashcroft, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, said: "We've
organised similar clean-up events in the past which have been
hugely successful with the children and we are delighted that the
pupils from Little Digmoor are keen to do the clean-up. It is
important that children learn from a young age to look after the
environment and this is an excellent way to teach them good habits
early on in life."
Sergeant Dave Lea, Skelmersdale Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant,
said: "I am really pleased that the school was so keen to support
us in this initiative. We really want to make a difference to the
quality of life for the residents of Little Digmoor and this type
of clean-up operation is just one way we can do that. The support
of young members of the community is invaluable in working towards
making lasting improvements."
During the day, children will spend their time litter-picking the
area and improving its overall look using the Council's equipment
and their rubbish will be collected at the end of the day.
The event is also part of the school's commitment to improving the
environment and to help them apply for an Eco Award.
