Fly tippers pay price for littering
district
Litterlouts are being hit in the pocket for
spoiling West Lancashire's green and clean district.
Latest quarterly figures from February to May 2007 reveal that West
Lancashire District Council and the courts have collected over
£1,200 in fines from fly tippers.
During this period 11 people were caught dumping rubbish throughout
the district and are now paying the price for their deliberate
actions.
They had been caught in the act on the Council's CCTV system and
also by the Council's Street Scene Officers, Environmental Health
Team and the Police Community Support Officers, who have all been
working together to clampdown on this issue.
Some of the offences they have been penalised for include throwing
away unsightly cigarette butts, dumping old garage parts from cars
and motorcycles, discarding bin bags of rubbish or breaking the
rules for disposing their household waste.
As a result the Council and courts have netted in £1,225 from Fixed
Penalty Notices, fines and court costs in a bid to keep the
district clean and green.
Cllr John Baldock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Health,
said: "We have been working hard to catch those people responsible
for spoiling West Lancs because residents continually tell us that
they want the district cleaned up. We have adopted a zero tolerance
policy to environmental crime and the dumping of rubbish and these
figures shows how serious we are about doing so. We would urge
people to think twice before dumping their waste and take pride in
their neighbourhood."
