Give your views on Council plans to improve quality of
life
A vision to improve the quality of life for residents living in
West Lancashire is highlighted in a new leaflet out now.
West Lancashire District Council has published a booklet about its
aims, priorities and how it intends to address concerns in order
make the District a better place to live, work and visit.
It highlights what the Council is planning to do in 2007/08 to
continue to put customers and frontline services at the top of the
list to meet the needs of the community whilst providing value for
money.
The Council's priorities are:
- protecting and improving street scene and the environment
- combating crime and the fear of crime
- working to create good quality jobs for local people
- improving housing and ensuring that there is affordable housing
available for local people
- delivering cost-effective services that delight the customer
and are accessible to all
- and providing opportunities for leisure and culture
To find out whether the Council has got it right, the leaflet
also features a special feedback form. This is to give residents
the opportunity to comment on whether they think the Council is
hitting the most important issues for the benefit of the
community.
Geoff Roberts, Leader of the Council, said: "We went to be among
the very best district councils in the country and putting our
customers at the forefront of everything we do remains our number
one priority."
"We are already on our way to achieving this vision. Amongst our
many achievements, we have made massive improvements to recycling,
we have improved customer access and increased the figures for the
number of people who feel safe and secure living in West
Lancashire. We were named by the Audit Commission as the most
improved Council in the North West, and among the top 2%
nationally. The Council's website www.westlancsdc.gov.uk was named
the best district council website in the country in February. Chief
Executive Bill Taylor also scooped the 'Customer Services Business
Leader of the Year' prize in the National Customer Service
Awards.
"Over the next 12 months, we have lots of plans in the pipeline to
ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our community. We want
to make sure we are getting it right so I would encourage people to
pick up a leaflet and to fill in the questionnaire to tell us what
they think!"
The leaflet can be downloaded from the Performance and
priorities section. It is also available from the Council
receptions at 52 Derby Street and the Customer Service Point in the
Concourse, Skelmersdale, or by contacting 01695 585011
