New summer art exhibition programme
unveiled

Chapel Gallery has unveiled its own work of art - their brand new
exhibition programme which is packed with famous artists and
exciting events.
Art enthusiasts should pick up a copy because they won't want to
miss the inspiring selection of works, showcases and activities
that are happening from May through to January 2008.
Most notable in the programme is the Lawrence Isherwood exhibition
in September. Followers of the Wigan-based artist regard him as one
of the best impressionist/expressionist painters this country has
produced. Seen as a 'one-off' he was an eccentric and controversial
figure with collectors as notable as L.S. Lowry. So the Gallery is
particularly looking forward to showing his works.
Featuring again is the popular West Lancashire Open Exhibition,
which provides an excellent opportunity for professional artists,
art students and enthusiastic amateurs to exhibit their works. Also
back is the Youth Open exhibition following its successful
introduction last year. Young people will be asked to submit their
creations and then the chosen selection of diverse artworks from 8
to 18 year olds will be shown in October.
Other exhibitions include objects of desire which takes a look at
innovative crafts, the importance of narrative, abstract and
figurative paintings and other exciting initiatives such as the Big
Draw and Christmas events. In addition, there are plenty of
education and holiday activities planned for children and all the
family, the artists network and the art club for people to become
involved in.
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "Whether you
are an avid art follower and want to look at the lively
exhibitions, create your own artworks in a friendly environment or
participate in the educational activities, this new programme
really does offer something for everyone. I'm particularly looking
forward to the Lawrence Isherwood exhibition because it's such a
major coup to have his famous works shown here in West
Lancashire."
"I would urge people to pick up a copy of the new programme to
avoid missing out on any lively exhibitions and events that they
are interested in."
To pick up your copy of the exhibition programme or for further
