Urge to cash in canine coupons
Following the success of a recent animal health awareness day, which saw 400 dogs chipped and over 150 free neutering vouchers given away, the District Council is now urging residents to remember to cash in their coupons.

The 3-day event was held on Asda car park in Skelmersdale on 24, 25 and 26 April. Organised by the RSPCA, the District Council's Dog Control team participated in the event, helping to raise awareness around the health and safety of canine companions.

Hundreds of local residents attended the event and benefited from discounted micro chipping, on the spot vet checks, flea and worming treatments, and free neutering vouchers. And, to make sure the success doesn't stop there, the Council is now urging residents to make sure they use their vouchers and visit their local veterinary centre to have their dog neutered for free.

Cllr John Baldock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Health, said: "Events such as this really help to raise the profile of animal care and I am thrilled that our Dog Control Team where able to take part and contribute to raising awareness around canine care."

"Dogs make great pets but it is essential that their health and wellbeing is properly cared for. Over 150 neutering vouchers were given away on the day and I really hope that every one of them is used. It's all too easy to pick up a voucher and then put it in a drawer at home and forget all about it. So, if you picked up a free neutering coupon and haven't used it yet, then why not make an appoint today?"

Karen Chisholm, RSPCA Inspector for the Skelmersdale area, said: "The health and wellbeing of any pet is vital and our recent animal health awareness event was a fantastic way to raise the profile around animal health and safety."

"With over 400 animals chipped it is a great step towards ensuring there are less strays on the street of West Lancashire and also to making sure than any dogs that are estranged from their owners can be reunited quickly."

"If, on top of this, everyone who collected a free neutering vouchers makes sure that they use it - then the day will have been an enormous success."
