Bringing the X Factor to Skelmersdale
switch-on
Popular boy band Eton Road will be bringing the X factor to this
year's Skelmersdale Christmas lights switch-on.
The Liverpool group, who appeared on the hit show last year, will
be playing three songs to the crowds at the Concourse shopping
Centre on Friday 23rd November before helping to turn on the
Christmas lights.
Eton Road became well known for their fab vocals and outgoing
personalities on the 2006 series. They reached the final five
before being eliminated by Mr Nasty Simon Cowell. But since then
they have made many appearances and the members - Daniel Morris,
David Heath, James Edwards and Markus Collins - are looking forward
to performing in Skelmersdale.
But before the boys take to the stage, there will be plenty of
other entertainment when the event kicks-off at 4pm.
Warm-up acts include an amazing stunt bike show on stage, Bubble
Boy will be creating a giant bubble over a child, Collins will be
there with his dazzling light show including twirling batons and
neon flashing juggling clubs and Yo Yo experts will be showing off
their skills.
There will also be champion break-dancers, a jazz band, an
Acro-balance act, rapper walk-about characters, and a giant Yeti
with the artic explorers!
A comic Ali Gee look-alike will also keep the crowds in laughter
before the switch-on too.
Cllr Rob, Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "Eton Road
were a great band on the X Factor and I'm sure they will be just as
popular with the crowds in Skelmersdale at the switch-on. There's
also plenty of other acts that will bring a few surprises and
entertainment throughout the event too, as well as fun and games to
make it a memorable festive occasion - so make sure you come
along."
The Chairman of West Lancashire District Council, Cllr William
Cropper, Santa Claus and a host of friendly characters will also be
at the event too.
Then watch out for the piper at 5.45pm who will lead the procession
of the clergy, choir and local dignitaries, including the Council's
Chairman, over the bridge towards the shopping centre. .
At 6pm West Lancashire's Town Crier Don Evans will call for silence
for the carol service to begin. At the end of the service the grand
countdown will begin to the switch-on of the colourful lights at
6.30pm.
The event is also an ideal time to do some Christmas shopping as
there will be plenty of charity stalls around the Concourse and the
shops will be open until late too.
And don't forget the following week is Ormskirk's Christmas lights
switch-on, on Friday 30th November, where all the action is centred
around the town centre and clock tower. Details will be published
nearer the time.
