CCTV in Coronation Park

CCTV in Coronation Park

Coronation Park is now even safer - whatever time of day or night - thanks to our new CCTV system.

West Lancashire District Council has funded the installation of an additional camera to complement the existing security in the Ormskirk town centre park.

This new piece of surveillance equipment has infra red lights so that it can pick up any anti social behaviour after dark as well as in daylight.

The idea behind the latest safety measure is to provide a community reassurance and to deter any potential offenders from causing mischief at the popular attraction.

By having the new CCTV camera it covers areas such as the children's play area and skateboard ramps, the woodland walk and bowling green, all of which are well-used facilities by some of the most vulnerable people in society, such as youngsters and the elderly.

Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: "Ensuring that people feel safe is extremely important to us and CCTV is one of the major tools we use in our fight against crime and for reassuring residents that criminals are being watched 24 hours a day and will be caught if they offend. Coronation Park is a popular facility used by many and it is crucial that we use all the security measures we can to keep people safe, which is why I'm delighted we have installed the new camera."

Coronation Park also has its own Urban Ranger who is out and about patrolling the area and helping to provide an added feeling of security for visitors.

On top of this, Ranger Chris Horsfall is doing conservation work and is encouraging everyone to use the park's facilities. From the children's play area and the skateboarding park, to the bowling green and bandstand.

Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, added: "Our new Urban Ranger is doing a fantastic job of making the park feel much safer and with the addition of the new CCTV camera this will have an even bigger positive impact on the area. We want people to use our leisure facilities and whilst Coronation Park is already very well used I'm sure this extra investment we have made will make it even more popular."
