Chairman's charities net £2000!
The Chairman of the District Council is celebrating as his
chosen charities - the Scouts and Girl Guides - score a £2000 cash
boost from the Premier League.
The Chairman's Charities are one of only 20 runners-up selected by
Wigan Athletic in the 'Places for Players' initiative, and the
generous cheque has just been received from the Premier
League.
'Places for Players' is part of the Premier League's Creating
Chances programme - a community initiative designed to support
charities and good causes throughout the UK.
Across the country over 500 organisations will benefit from the
scheme, either by players getting involved or from a £2000 donation
direct from the Premier League.
Cllr William Cropper, Chairman of the Council, said: "I am
delighted to received this cheque on behalf of my chosen charities
and I would like to thank the Premier League and Wigan Athletic for
recognising the Scouts and Girls Guides as worthy causes to receive
this charitable donation. Every penny counts and this generous
contribution will have a big impact on the overall total at the end
of my year in office."
Richard Scudamore, Chief Executive of the Premier League, said:
"Creating Chances highlights the Premier League and our clubs'
continued and increasing commitment to local communities. We wanted
to help as many good causes as possible through the 'Places for
Players' initiative, and so I hope the £2000 donation for our
runners-up will help them to continue their fantastic work and in
many cases provide a springboard for charities and good causes to
achieve their goals."
