Work up an appetite for a tasty award!
To toast Lancashire's famous food culture, West Lancashire
District Council is stirring up local restaurants and diners to get
involved in a delicious initiative.
'Taste Lancashire' is a new scheme run primarily by Lancashire and
Blackpool Tourist Board, Made in Lancashire and Quality In Tourism
for eating establishments who are constantly providing a high
quality eating experience.
The District Council's Economic Regeneration Team is backing this
venture and is urging West Lancashire's food industry to get
involved in this fantastic accreditation scheme.
It is an award for all types of eating out establishments such as
farm shops, tearooms, cafes, pubs and all types of restaurants and
provides so many benefits.
There are three categories that establishments can acheieve:
· Highest Quality Award
· Quality Award
· Made in Lancashire Award- this would largely be awarded to farm
shops and producers
Cllr Grant, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Planning, said:
"This is a great new initiative which I'd urge eligible food
businesses to get involved in because there are so many advantages.
Becoming accredited not only acknowledges businesses who constantly
provide an excellent eating experience but it also allows the
organisation the chance to promote themselves with the tourist
board and with the District Council. There are other benefits too
such as being involved in marketing activities, the opportunity to
feature at food events and general wider recognition."

There are currently four participants from the West Lancashire area
who are accredited, they are: The Farmers Arms, Bispham Green; WWT
Martin Mere, Burscough; producers W&EF Neale, Ormskirk; and
Homesteads farm shop in Holmeswood.
Homesteads Farm Shop is also running a three-day event in November
to celebrate 'Lancashire Day' on the weekend of November 24th, 25th
and 26th.Town crier Don Evans will be making a special appearance
and will deliver some Lancashire prose. On all three days, Lamb
Lancashire Hotpot will be served, from noon. Over Saturday and
Sunday, there will also be the chance to meet the finest producers
from the area, with the chance to talk to them and sample their
fresh produce. On the Sunday, people will also be dressed in
traditional Lancashire dress.
This particular event supports 'Taste Lancashire 08 - The Year of
Food & Drink'. This year long celebration has been developed in
partnership by the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board with
Liverpool's European Capital of Culture 2008 and the Liverpool
Culture Company and is a yearlong programme featuring a wide range
of food events, activities and promotions. To find out more, please
