Asbestos safety
Tenants of West Lancashire
District Council should watch out for a special delivery.
To ensure the continued health and safety of all tenants, an
informative leaflet is being sent out over the coming weeks with
the tenants newsletter Home Front News, to help clearly explain
some of the most frequently asked questions about asbestos in the
home.
The leaflet is packed full of advice on what exactly asbestos is,
right through to what to do and who to contact if you think you
have a problem with asbestos in your home.
The leaflet is also available to download from the Tenants section, along
with a guide for homeowners, which provides further advice and
contact details.
Cllr Val Hopley, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: "The Council
is a responsible landlord and the health and safety of our tenants
is of paramount importance. As part of our asbestos management
plan, all homes types have been checked to identify any properties
with high risk materials that may contain asbestos - these have all
been labelled and safely sealed or removed were necessary.
"It is important to stress that we are not aware of any of the
highest risk materials being within our homes and the council
continues to carry out inspections to identify lower risk materials
and to monitor their condition.
"I am very pleased that tenants will soon be receiving this free
information leaflet, as it will help to ensure that all asbestos is
dealt with in a sensible and safe manner. I would encourage tenants
to store their copy of the leaflet safely so that, in the event of
ever finding asbestos, you will have all the information you need
right at your fingertips."
If for any reason you don't receive a copy of the leaflet and would
like to, please contact the Council's Housing Property Service Team
on 01695 585294.
