Banks Leisure Centre scores with over £100,000
investment
It's a winner for Banks Leisure Centre
following news that the old all weather sports pitches are to
receive a massive facelift worth more than £100,000.
West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust is investing the
significant sum to launch two fantastic all weather Astroturf
pitches at the site.
Work is starting from Monday 8th October, with the existing all
weather area being overhauled to make way for the more modern
playing surface.
Appointed contractors Doe Sport Ltd will spend the next two months
building two, top-of-the-range 5-a-side Astroturf pitches, which
will be floodlit and fenced accordingly.
The project is be completed by the end of November 2007 and during
this time the existing pitches will be unavailable for teams who
currently use the site. They have been fully consulted on the
proposals and have been given alternative venues to choose from to
ensure they do not have their game disrupted too much.
Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the Community Leisure Trust, said: "We're
really excited about the level of investment that is going into
Banks to improve the all weather pitches and we have already
received support from the teams who realise that the end result
will be worth it! I'd like to thank them for their patience and can
assure them that in no time at all it will be game on and they'll
be able to score once more!"
Once finished, the pitches can be used for football leagues,
coaching, training and leisure bookings
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "This is a
major step forward for the customers who use Banks Leisure Centre
and fulfils our promise that we will work together in partnership
to create better leisure facilities for all. Since the Trust took
over the management of our centres they have made significant
improvements and have invested significantly at the sites. This
latest development shows that they are committed to providing top
quality facilities for all to enjoy."
The Trust's other facilities that will accommodate bookings whilst
the works take place include:
· Burscough Fitness & Racquets Leisure Centre - 01704
895266
· Skelmersdale Sports Centre - 01695 723777
Both these leisure facilities provide outdoor and indoor pitches,
equipment to hire, changing and shower facilities.
Those who make regular bookings at Banks Leisure Centre will be
automatically reinstated once the work has been completed -
ensuring they are one of the first to enjoy the new
facilities.
The Trust has responsibility for the five leisure centres across
the district:
· Nye Bevan Pool
· Park Pool
· Skelmersdale Sports Centre
· Banks Leisure Centre and
· Burscough Fitness and Racquets Leisure Centre
