Extra road sweepers
Not 'leafing' anything to chance, extra road sweepers are taking
to the streets of West Lancashire to deal with the autumn
fall.
West Lancashire District Council has put on additional machines to
tackle the annual leaf fall problem that affects the district for
the colder seasonal change in weather.
Two additional vehicles will patrol the district on a daily basis
to collect the leaves that fall onto the footpaths to help maintain
a clean, safe environment during the autumn and winter.
Identified areas will be specifically targeted during the
operation, which is expected to continue until March 2007, but the
whole district will be monitored and swept wherever the problems
occur as quickly as resources will permit.
The idea behind the initiative is to ensure the streets are clean,
safe and tidy during the fall. All the leaves that are picked up
are recycled in a bid to protect and improve the environment.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene Management,
said:
"By having additional road sweepers out and about to target
hotspots, it means that the streets and footpaths will be cleared
more regularly and our other teams can concentrate on other
cleansing duties - which will benefit the whole district. It also
allows us to ensure that the district maintains its good reputation
for being clean, safe and green."
This latest initiative compliments the many other services the
Council carries out to keep West Lancashire a garden district,
clean and green. To find out how the Council is keeping the area
