Pride of Place in West Lancshire
What is your favourite place in West Lancashire? What do you
show visitors when you take them on a tour of your home
patch?
West Lancashire has many beauty spots and historic landmarks and
over the next six weeks residents will have the chance to vote for
one of their favourites in the Pride of Place poll.
The Pride of Place poll is part of a national initiative
launched by the Department of Communities and Local Government
(DCLG) in which local authorities all over the country were asked
to submit a list of 10 landmarks. The poll runs from 15 October to
30 November, after which the DCLG will count the votes and announce
winners.
The West Lancashire landmarks listed are:
· Beacon Country Park near Skelmersdale
· Christ Church, Aughton
· the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Top Locks, Lathom
· Martin Mere Wetlands Centre
· Newburgh village centre
· Ormskirk Clock Tower
· Ormskirk Parish Church
· Rufford Old Hall
· Scarisbrick Hall
· Up Holland Parish Church
Cllr Ian Grant, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "West
Lancashire really is a wonderful area with beautiful countryside, a
treasured heritage, bustling towns and pretty villages and a list
of just 10 places means that, unfortunately, not everything can be
mentioned. I hope people will take the opportunity to visit the
website and vote for what they feel is their favourite."
The Pride of Place poll is part of the government's "Connect to
your Council" campaign which aims to encourage citizens across
England to access their local authority services online anytime,
anywhere.
You can request services, give your views, pay bills and find
information through the West Lancs website, which is open round the
clock, every day of the year, to make it easy for people to contact
the council.
