Travel writer to spread the word about West
Lancashire
Tourism in West Lancashire is set to receive a boost and the
number of American visitors to the district is likely to soar
following a special visit.
Travel writer Kathy Amber, who is who is a member of the Society of
American Travel Writers and based in Chicago, was so impressed by
West Lancashire when she came here on a recent tour that she has
promised to spread the word about us far and wide.
The news comes when Kathy Amber was personally welcomed to our
District by the Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Planning and
the Interim manager for Regeneration and Estates before officers
from West Lancashire District Council showed her around the
district's wonderful sites.
During the tour she was taken around the breathtaking countryside
and popular attractions such as Martin Mere, Rufford Old Hall and
other historical buildings and then sampled traditional Lancashire
hot pot.
She enjoyed her time here so much that she is to use her influence
across the other side of the Atlantic. This means that West
Lancashire's economy and tourism industry is likely to reap the
benefits.
Cllr Ian Grant, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Planning,
said: "It was a real pleasure to be able to show our American
visitor that West Lancashire is indeed a top tourist destination
full of lovely surprises. She was enthralled with the scenery, the
agriculture, the history and particularly loved all the little farm
shops selling their produce.
"She told us that she would be encouraging other visitors to come
and will be stressing in her editorial that there's more to see in
Britain than London and that they should travel north to discover
hidden gems like West Lancashire. This is great news for us and
will certainly benefit our tourism sector."
