Cleaning blitz for Elmers Clough
'Get dirty and help clean up your neighbourhood next weekend',
is the message from West Lancashire District Council.
On Friday and Saturday, 28th and 29th September, the Council's
Street Scene Team will join local residents, partners,
schoolchildren and other volunteers in a special community clean-up
blitz.
The event is part of Mersey Basin Week, which is a weeklong
celebration that aims to get people in the north west involved in
practical activities and events on and around the Mersey and Ribble
basins.
During the two-day event in Skelmersdale, groups will target Elmers
Clough to give it a good clean up.
The area will benefit from litter picking, tackling blocked areas,
cleaning the footpaths and other necessary action.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene Management,
said: "Last year we took part in the Mersey Basin Week event and it
was a massive success. This year I'm confident that it will be even
bigger and better. We've already got lots of volunteers signed up
who are really enthusiastic about giving the place a good clean and
I'm sure we'll have more turn up on the day. I'd encourage people
to come along because it's a great way to spruce up the local
neighbourhood in a fun way - so come on and get dirty!"
Anyone who would like to come along, it starts each day at 9.45am,
meeting at Skelmersdale Sea Cadets, Elmstead. Don't forget to wear
suitable clothing, including wellies or sturdy footwear. Lunch and
refreshments are also provided on both days. Contact Emma
Staniforth on 01942 821444 or Gemma Tomlinson on 01772
877389.
