Council says 'benvenuto' to Italian learners
West Lancashire District Council has this week been welcoming
Italian members of the University of the Third Age.
The Italian branch of the U3A, based in the old town of Macerata,
near Venice, was keen to forge links to the North of England - and
what better spot than West Lancs!
Having partnered up with the local Aughton U3A, the Italian group
have this week enjoyed a tour of the north west, spending half of
their time with a U3A group in Grange-over-Sands, before topping
their trip off with a stay in West Lancashire.
As a special highlight to their visit the Council opened its doors
to the group on Wednesday 29 August, providing a special guided
tour and a chance to meet and chat with the Leader of the
Council.
Cllr Geoff Roberts, Leader of the Council who hosted the visit and
is both a member and trustee of U3A, said: "The University of the
Third Age is an excellent organisation offering older generations
the chance not only to continue their learning but to share their
experiences. I am delighted that our local Aughton branch and
Macerata are forging links, and that we have been able to assist is
showcasing West Lancashire and the Council so that people can see
how we work and what West Lancashire has on offer."
