Safety advice for the over 60s
On Friday 28
September the District Council, in partnership with Age Concern
Lancashire, will be holding a special event offering information
and advice specifically aimed at protecting the safety of older
people both inside and outside the home.
The 'Stay Safe Day' will run from 9.30am - 3pm at the Seniors Club,
Moorgate, Ormskirk. Numerous other organisations will be taking
part in the event, including Skelmersdale Community Food
Initiative, Central Lancashire PCT, Lancashire Police, Lancashire
Fire and Rescue Services, Powergen and the Council's Private Sector
Housing Team and Home Care Link Service.
Visitors will be able to browse around the many stalls, picking up
information on everything from how to prevent falls, to how to make
your home more secure. There will also be the opportunity to find
out about fire prevention measures, including the chance to make an
appointment to have a free smoke alarm fitted.
The Stay Safe Day also provides a free electric blanket testing
service. All appointments must be pre-booked, so please call the
Council's Health Promotion Team on 01695 585253 to make your
appointment.
Cllr Baldock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Health, said: "I
am very pleased that the Council is working in partnership with Age
Concern and alongside so many other organisations, to provide such
a useful day. The event has been held for a number of years and is
always well attended, as it offers a unique opportunity for people
to gather lots of practical advice and information on simple steps
to help ensure their health and safety."
Gill Dobie, Age Concern, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for
older people in Ormskirk to see what is on offer and obtain safety
advice on staying safe both inside and outside their homes. We are
delighted to be working with so many partners, especially the
District Council."
