Students pass the test for leisure learning!

Health and fitness students went at a pace to learn about life in the leisure industry when they paid a visit to Nye Bevan Pool.Students visit Nye Bevan Pool

Students from Ormskirk and Skelmersdale College enjoyed a day at the facility on Wednesday 5th September to gain valuable knowledge to assist them in their studies toward BTEC, Diploma and NVQ Level 2 in Health and Fitness.

More than 40 students went along to the Nye Bevan site for a behind the scenes session regarding the operations of the leisure centre.

During the tour they discovered how the operations of the swimming pools, health suite, fitness suite and the associated plant room work.

Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the Leisure Trust, said: "There's nothing like practical hands-on experience when studying for a subject, especially in the health and fitness industry. We are a great believer in helping students fulfil their ambitions in this industry and so we were delighted to host this excellent event, which has helped them to see how operations work in real life."

The day was also a great opportunity for the students to meet staff, ask questions and take advantage of the health and fitness facilities.

Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "The students had a really informative day at the centre and it was a great opportunity for them to see how everything works behind the scenes. Feedback was extremely positive from those who came along and I'm sure that it has helped give them a better insight into the operations of a leisure facility, which will benefit their studying."

The Trust has responsibility for the five leisure centres across the District: Nye Bevan Pool, Park Pool, Skelmersdale Sports Centre, Banks Leisure Centre and Burscough Fitness and Racquets Leisure Centre.
