Community rooms get cash bonanza

Two Skelmersdale community rooms are to benefit from massive makeovers, thanks to a cash windfall.

Little Digmoor and Carfield meeting rooms are to benefit from a £348,250 funding injection for capital improvements to the premises.

Last year Hope House Project asked West Lancashire District Council to help them put in a grant application to refurbish the two premises where it delivers its activities.

As a result of the successful partnership work the Big Lottery Fund decided to award the community group £348,250 from the Community Assets Programme to enhance their buildings.

This now means that the Council will transfer the premises on a long-term lease over to the Hope House Project so that they can provide a youth centre and community activities in both areas where no similar facilities exist.

Dave Tilleray, Executive Manager for Community Services, said:"This is fantastic news for the Hope House Project, who deliver an invaluable service to the community. I’m delighted that we have been able to support them in their funding bid and that we are now able to make the buildings available to them. By improving the facilities at these sites to bring them up to an acceptable standard, they will be able to concentrate on providing even better quality youth and community projects as well as IT training. Congratulations to them - we wish them every success for the future."

Pastor Tony Adegbenro from the Hope House Project added:

"The grant is for building refurbishment but help is still needed desperately for revenue costs to run the project. The grant is a token of our achievement in for the community in Skelmersdale for the past 15 years. My thanks go to all who have supported us, especially West Lancashire District Council and other agencies."

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Hope House Project to help with their revenue costs can contact Tony on 07828 259750.
