Waste collections weathered the storm

Waste collections weathered the storm

Following recent stormy weather, West Lancashire District Council would like to thank residents for their patience and assistance in minimising the effects locally.

Extreme weather conditions, particularly high winds, cause considerable littering, presenting a major problem when carrying out refuse and recycling collections.

We would like to commend residents who took care in putting out their recycling waste by:

· Ensuring that all recycling boxes had lids securely in place

· Weighing down the boxes by placing the filled blue bag on secured box lid

· Securely tying any materials in bags

In very extreme conditions it may be necessary to avoid putting your waste out until the next designated collection day.

The Council also made changes in an effort to minimise any problems by:

· Carrying out street cleansing and refuse and recycling collections at the same time in order to provide an immediate response to litter problems

· Ensuring that litter bins in the town centre were regularly emptied to stop their contents being spread around by the wind

· Increasing communication so that we could respond quickly and effectively to customers' concerns

Together we maintained uninterrupted services over a particularly troublesome period.

Once again the Council appreciates your help and patience and with your continuing support it is confident that together we can overcome any problems that the weather may present us in future.
